beware the text editors of march, too
Feel free to come inside. But don't worry when you can't get out. 🤪
I don’t understand the attraction of being able to talk to computers using breezy casual conversational language; I’ve been telling these little digital bastards what to do for decades using extremely precise formalised language and they still get it wrong

pee-can?
peh-cawn?

peh-can <-- gets my vote, btw.

I don't care if it's a thing or not.

Meta. OpenAI. Google.

Your AI chatbot is not *hallucinating*.

It's bullshitting.

It's bullshitting, because that's what you designed it to do. You designed it to generate seemingly authoritative text "with a blatant disregard for truth and logical coherence," i.e., to bullshit.

For anyone thinking about doing any type of around the world in a balloon adventure...

Now is really not the time!

accidentally wrote "saad" instead of "saas" in a text to my partner; they immediately coined "Software as a Disappointment"

and honestly, where is the lie

@davidbisset

You're lucky it's interns.

In my case, the equivalent mess is any code worked on by our "Development Manager", proudly displaying his "30 years of experience".

"QUICK. WHAT ARE THE 128 MOST IMPORTANT INSTRUMENTS? WE NEED TO HAVE THE GENERAL MIDI SPEC IN TOMORROW!"

"UH FUCK, PIANO 1 PIANO 2 PIANO 3 FLUTE OBOE GUN"

"GUN???"

"HELICOPTER"

@Broaden0884

This one seems decent, and covers a lot of real, practical territory, well beyond the very basic.

Although I'd suggest looking for a pre-owned copy...

I haven't read I cover to cover, but have used it as a reference while customizing our product's API.
