Over 400 women have been arrested since they overturned Roe v Wade— yet not a SINGLE man has been arrested for raping children with Epstein.
A bit concerning to look at the window and see this.

The FENZ incident report list for today does show Remutaka VFB attending a vegetation fire in Whiteman's Valley from 17:23 - that might've been the smoke I could see, it's roughly in the right direction and time

Sorry for the lack of alt text, I'm not sure whether it's Calckey/Firefish or Vivaldi that's not letting me
Did a petrol run this afternoon. Pak'n'Save Upper Hutt had signs up saying they were all out of 91. Quick check of the Gaspy app then up to the Waitomo on Fergusson Drive. The first pump had a thing on the 91 pump saying they were out, but the other pumps were all open and had 91. Do they have multiple tanks? Anyways, filled up, considered filing for bankruptcy.

There were cheaper options, but not much cheaper. I perhaps could've saved a couple of cents if I'd remembered I do have a card to get a discount at Caltex, and had filled up there. Otherwise anywhere cheaper was far enough away that whatever I'd saved and more would've been burnt up in the extra travel.

I live close enough to work to walk, and the bus service along Fergusson Drive is good enough....
Oh for crying out loud...

GROW UP!

You chose to speed. Losing your licence was not a trauma. You did not lose your independence, you had to find other ways to get around because you do not have any god-given right to drive wherever you want whenever you want at whatever speed you want. And seriously, caught five times and you didn't notice the demerits building up? Suddenly there's a letter telling you you're licence is suspended?

GROW UP!

Disney+ has a video of Bruce Springsteen performing Nebraska. I guess it's a tie-in to that movie with Jeremy Allen White.

My first year in Beijing I had a colleague from New Jersey. He was a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen. I never really have been - I've never disliked Springsteen, just never got in to his music. Anyway, colleague insisted I listen to Nebraska. This, of course, was back in the olden days when one would hand a physical copy of the album to the other. So I took this CD back to my apartment and listened to it. My respect for Springsteen instantly skyrocketed.

I just watched that aforementioned video of Nebraska. I'd forgotten how powerful that album is. Damn, that is powerful music.
Wow, there is a lot in this article.

For starters, pay attention to those saying this bill is a bad idea. Yes, if passed, this will easily result in people dying.

Also:

"Wasn't the Police Association concerned for the gang patch law as well, right? Here we need to be sensible. We need to see what works for New Zealand," says Sonny Kaushal. Let's be clear: Sonny Kaushal does not work for New Zealand. His political hijinks are not good for anyone.

"Recently Suraj received an invitation to attend a family group conference. The purpose of the meeting? To see how to best support the offenders who have destroyed his life, not support for him."

Yep.

There are supports for victims of crime. Enough supports? Hell, no. We're in New Zealand. There is never enough of what we need.

Children and young people committing crime need support to learn better life sills, get treatment for what ails them, quite possibly even get in to secure, stable housing and education or training. That way, they are more likely to go on to productive members of society. Keep bashing them the way the populists think we should and we'll only produce more crime.

Sonny Kaushal's little hobby horse, if turned in to law, will only produce more crime, more trauma, more destruction, and yes, more completely unnecessary, wasteful death.

We can do better.

There's an easy answer to the question posed in this headline:

NO!

For a little more nuance:

HELL NO!

Persecuting homeless people isn't going to magically put them in homes, nor will having Police chase people out of town centres do much for law and order. If you want to crackdown on the bad behaviour that's ruining people's businesses, we really should start in the Beehive.

Or, you know, invest in housing, health, education, etc... But it's easier to just bash vulnerable people, isn't it?
I know my phone has more computing power than what got us to the moon. But, if autocorrect was piloting that spacecraft, there'd be three corpses halfway to Alpha Centauri right now.
