Iโ€™m a mastodon noob. I live in Winnipeg MB.
LocationWinnipeg MB
Is cool?Yes ๐Ÿ˜Ž
I sent an email to Dr. Barry Prentice of the University of Manitoba. According to an old CBC article he is involved with efforts to get airships hauling cargo up north. So I asked him a few questions about how things are going. Hopefully he responds. If he does Iโ€™ll post an update here.

The Canadian North has serious supply chain issues. Some communities (and all of Nunavut) are cut off from road networks. Goods need to be flown in with cargo planes, leading to crazy grocery prices + housing shortages.

One solution is to use airships to fly cargo in, dramatically reducing the cost. Apparently there were some companies looking into that: https://nunatsiaq.com/stories/article/possibility-of-using-airships-in-the-arctic-studied-by-canadian-north-french-company/ But this article was published 07/23. Does anyone know if thereโ€™s been any updates since then?

What apps do you guys use to access #mastodon on mobile?

Why is there no discussion on splitting the difference and changing time zones by half an hour? If Newfoundland can survive being half an hour off from its neighbors there shouldnโ€™t be any arguments against it.

@chimpchomp

Permanent daylight standard time would be ideal.

BC got it wrong choosing daylight savings time. Daylight standard time is the overall healthier option. Saw an interview with one of their own science advisors explaining why standard would be the best choice, and expressing his dismay at seeing the government completely ignore that recommendation.

Also this has been studied plenty:

Study suggests most Americans would be healthier without daylight saving time

According to a new analysis by Stanford Medicine scientists, changing clocks twice a year disrupts circadian rhythms, leading to higher rates of stroke and obesity.

@canada Residents of #canada, would you be in favour of your province or territory abolishing annual clock changes and moving to a consistent, year round time?

If yes, what would you prefer: year round daylight savings time (an extra hour of sunlight in the evening) or standard time (an extra hour of sunlight in the morning)?

How many people from #manitoba or #winnipeg are on here?

Heylo Iโ€™m new to Mastodon. I really like the idea of the fediverse as a way to assert our digital sovereignty ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ, so I joined Mastodon thought Iโ€™d try it out.

Iโ€™ve lived in Winnipeg MB for a bit now, and while I donโ€™t dislike the Jets I must admit that my heart is with the Oilers.

If anyone knows some good people to follow to get an indepth analysis of any given nerdy subject, then please let me know. Those people would be fun to follow.
