@girlonthenet this is so upsetting to me because this is honestly just like basic decency. If someone doesn’t want to accept help, or feels they don’t need help, why do people feel the need to override that decision. Your post is insightful as to why, so thank you for the read.

Once again - the Reddit blackout begins tomorrow. Do NOT visit reddit. Do not lurk to see what your favourite subs are doing that day. Ideally all week. But a minimum for two days.

Do not open the app. Go completely silent.

Hopefully Reddit does the right thing and reversed their decision on the API and mod tools.

After next week - If the blackout continues and Reddit sends in a scab to any of your favorite subs - unsubscribe to the sub and stop posting or commenting there.

@iemoe7bi I don’t regularly visit in the HN front page, but when I do I feel like they are most tech stories and blog posts about tech. Really not trying to defend anything here, because I have 0 stakes and and just asking a genuine question, but are some of those stories removed because they are not direct tech articles?

I have zero faith in Steve Huffman’s ability to lead Reddit.

What kind of chief executive officer posts this comment after a massive community backlash? https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/145bram/addressing_the_community_about_changes_to_our_api/jnk45rr/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3

Addressing the community about changes to our API

@matthewcassinelli Jeez - after reading @christianselig long and detailed post about their interactions with Reddit, these comments by Steve leave such a sour taste in my mouth. Continually burning any trust in the leadership of the platform that I've visited the most over the past 10+ years. Its so sad to see these giant social platforms I've, in a way, called home just crumble due to the ego of one person.
@fedicat My buggiest issue with the API changes is that I just plain don’t enjoy the UI/UX of the native app on my phone, and the desktop website has been getting progressively worse. I primarily stayed on Reddit old on the desktop, because the new site is probably the worst expierences I’ve had on the modern web.
@Bandersnatch @arstechnica Reddit will survive this. But I do think that a lot of the users that contribute some of the best/better content will start to migrate away from the platform. The website and native app are pretty trash and I’m really struggling with what to do myself. I’m on the verge of just quitting. Losing both Twitter and Reddit has been quite the whirlwind for how I’ve interacted with the internet/social content over the past 10+ years.
