If I followed you and you don't know me irl, it's probably because I like my feed full of shitposts.

pronounsthey, but don't sweat it

I'm switching to @[email protected] before I've done too much here. Hold your hats everyone! I've got the fedi.tips article, I'm pleasantly surprised it's possible at all, but it does look a bit like open heart surgery!

My main concern was that I'm trying very hard to leave the tech industry (well, I have, but not joined any other yet), but I've been reassured that tech-allies are welcome, 😄 .

For how many years have I been conflating Dave "NTK" Green with Dave Allen Green? 😀
Also, BBC Food website should have an advanced search option "Just a normal f*ckin' ...". It would save me a lot of time!
(I'm sure this already has a name and isn't some great revelation. If anyone knows it, let me know and I can bandy it around like I'm posh, 😀 ).

Accidental roux procedure that I'm sticking to:
1. melt *and brown* butter, alone, in pan until first sign of nutty smell / browning;
2. add flour and fry/mix until consistency close to dough;
3. add milk as normal in batches, whisking (cold and stand back!)

ie the difference is browning is done without the flour. Downside is less time to fry off flour taste, upside is richer butter taste and mixture more uniform than a proper roux when you start adding milk, so easier to keep smooth.

In tears hearing about the Ruth Ellis case (the last woman hanged in the UK). Her abusive, alcoholic father, her mother's suicide after her death, her son's suicide after desecrating her gave, the barrister for her prosecution paying for his funeral. That's before we get to the victim and his family. More real than any of us are the actions we circulate like coins: creating, propagating and hopefully occasionally quashing. What a mess.

I don't think many will agree, but the first of these dresses is one of *the* prettiest: absolutely gorgeous.

Wow! The US military seems to have a pretty serious discipline issue in the ranks these days. To think what some of these jokers could be actually in charge of. What will it be next?
I lvoe the way the Courant writes "Actor donates props to a Tynedale Sci-Fi Museum" being vague to get us to click-through, as if the valley is scattered with hundreds of such museums!

My current ChatGPT's record:

1. asked if scene appeared in a novel: said it did, it didn't;

2. asked about plant morphology: confused it with another plant; I queried & it confused it with a 3rd;

3. asked about subject of a medieval manuscript: guessed from the title, incorrectly;

4. asked to solve a problem with dice: nonsense maths.

Honestly, ELIZA was better than this. Asking ChatGPT just *adds* to the total time to do research, I think. Each of these "aids" lead me down a long dead-end.
