The EU Data Visualisation Guide was published last month

https://data.europa.eu/apps/data-visualisation-guide/

I wrote all the content for it, and I built the interactive publication in @sveltejs. It has 7 chapters and contains a ton of examples. You can search it for a topic, or use it as a guided course and browse from page to page. It basically condenses all I learned about data visualization in the past decade

Global warming is not just happening, it's accelerating rapidly.
That means the impacts and consequences are accelerating as well

In this context, we share this blog post where we explore how the Do No Harm Guide, for equity in data visualization, can be applied to local contexts of reconciliation, equity, and Indigenous issues.

@patriciatiffany shares five takeaways from the guide and connect them to some reflections, learning resources and examples.

Interpreting the Do No Harm guide through a Canadian context for Truth and Reconciliation - Voilà:

How do we approach and present data responsibly, with intention and purpose? The Do No Harm Guide for data visualization, published by Jon Schwabish and Alice Feng (Urban Institute) earlier this year, presented a set of guidelines for visualizing through a lens of equity awareness. Voilà:

Today, most of Canada observes a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which takes place officially on September 30 of each year.

"The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process."

It’s the 10th but it’s also the 4th anniversary of Voilà:.

For in the summer of 2019, it became a team, an organization, with the hiring of the first full time staff.

The contrast in output from the time when it was just a freelance project is striking. 📈

For all of this, I want to celebrate the contribution of (in order of appearance):

Erica
Estelle
Chloé
Olivia
Patricia
Timour
Celia
Marie-Blanche
Noémie
Jonathan
Julian
Mathieu
Jessie.

Thank you for making Voilà:! 🙏🏻

Today, 1st of October 2023, Voilà: celebrates 10 years - to the day! 🎉

It's important for us, because it shows how popular information design is becoming as it reveals ways to make the world a better place.

All throughout this year, we are going to write about our work, our clients' missions, our history and what is information design.

See you soon for more!

What do we think about this double use of an axis with two units (% and megatonnes)?

Genius or outrageous?

@pbump from the Washington Post goes there and redesigns a chart from the New York Times. Here’s the before and after.

Do you agree it’s better?

Hey vis.social folks!

I've updated our docs, with some screenshots that may help. The screenshots are from the web UI, so if you're using a mobile app they might look different.
