Today, 1st of October 2023, Voilà: celebrates 10 years - to the day! 🎉

It's important for us, because it shows how popular information design is becoming as it reveals ways to make the world a better place.

All throughout this year, we are going to write about our work, our clients' missions, our history and what is information design.

See you soon for more!

What do we think about this double use of an axis with two units (% and megatonnes)?

Genius or outrageous?

@pbump from the Washington Post goes there and redesigns a chart from the New York Times. Here’s the before and after.

Do you agree it’s better?

Plus, graphing various dire realities.

I was sorry I didn't have time to be a mentor for the Dataviz Society, but then they asked if I would mentor @duncangeere and I found the time.

The fact that I'm now responsible for a third to a half of all his future achievements is a big plus.

Seriously, I couldn't pass on the chance to get to know Duncan and to learn from him. He's a guiding light in the field and now I know even better why.

This is one of the most spectacular charts I've seen. Five mountain ranges to track the Dow Jones Industrial Average across five U.S. presidents.

@pbump never fails to deliver.

Plus, Wordle finally has a good word.

Always interesting to see how a chart redesign evolves after the client takes control.

Right now, there's a chart on the home page of the World Bank Group's website that comes from a report we designed ("Thriving").

Left: The original version.
Middle: Our redesign.
Right: Their adaptation.

They kept the reordering of the countries and the target lines (now duplicated), but they didn't distinguish the projections.

When you see it

These stylized map from the Book of Roads and Kingdoms look a lot like data visualizations to me. These Islamic Manuscripts go back to the Middle Ages. Maybe they should be part of dataviz history books.

Reading on a vacation is a favourite pastime but it’s the first time I get to read charts by Voilà: in a major magazine
