@MsMerope at least for 1:1 chats it looks like the message was sent but never received (i.e. one checkmark, not two). Whether this is due to network outages, the user not using the app anymore, Signal server issues or being blocked is indistinguishable.
That is what they see (one checkmark). Whether people can reasonably infer why that it's a block is is a different story. But you can always say "I never got it" and it's consistent with what the other side sees.
The background why this never worked before is because the internal data structures of the iOS and the Android app were just too different (and the Android local backup was apparently such a pain to maintain that the iOS team decided not to do that).
The new solution should be a stratification of everything in that direction, and given that I doubt they built two different formats in the cloud, the format should now be compatible with both and hence transferable.

@untrusted … nahezu alle relevanten Messenger (WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook) kontrollieren und bist bei einer Plattform, die bei einer Non-Profit liegt, das ist für die Mehrheit der Menschen schonmal ein Schritt in weniger Abhängigkeit von Überwachungskapitalismus.
Man kann das natürlich verneinen, wenn man das möchte, und sich auf eine Maximalposition zurückziehen. Diese Maximalposition ist aber deutlich älter, hatte mehr Zeit, zu liefern, hat aber im Mainstream bis heute nicht geliefert. 🤷
@untrusted Naja, die überwältigende Mehrheit ist immer noch abhängig von einem serverbetreiber, den sie nicht kennen, sowohl direkt bei ihrem Homeserver als auch Indirekt beim Server ihrer Gesprächspartner. und alle XMPP-Implementierungen, die ich kenne, legen das eigene Addressbuch im Klartext auf dem Server ab, wo es für jeden Admin einsehbar ist. Not quite as bad as Matrix, was wirklich alles über alle Server repliziert…
