@KeithAmmann we use fastmail with a custom domain. we generally think it works better than gmail/gcal

Tuta is also a similar option (that we also use the mail part of), but we're not as big a fan of their UX (but bigger fan of their privacy)

both are webmail/calendar and have at least android apps (probably iOS too, but idk)

@Sailorplutoid that's clever! wonder if there's a type of bowl+dice where it wouldn't be pretty loud

also imagining a metal dice just destroying a corelle bowl lol

So it's going on, the big DTRPG Christmas in July sale! 30% off bunches of stuff, and even 75% off some stuff. There's lots of Mythic stuff on sale too. Just ... so much great stuff all around!

@seedling definitely will be curious of your and your players' take aways if you're willing to share

@seedling #DND4E has a few posts at least

not many folks talking about D&D 4e though, when we saw your original post we actually weren't sure if that's what you meant by 4e 😅

Today I've got an update to Detect Balance Plus! The premier tool for 5E species balance. Today's is the third-party update, adding scores and features for species by Loot Tavern, KibblesTasty, and myself. Check it out!

I was reading an article at Rascal criticizing 2025 D&D's Monster Manual when someone linked this blog post in the comments:

https://throneofsalt.blogspot.com/2020/08/d-doesnt-understand-what-monsters-are.html

It is an interesting read and the comments have some even better discussion about monsters as a symptom of some evil rather than just being an evil in and themselves.

Something I'd like to keep in mind whenever I end up touching TTRPGs again. But at the rate I am going at that I will probably forget it by then. Oh, well, I bookmarked it anyway.

D&D Doesn't Understand What Monsters Are

This post is thanks in large part to episode 279 of the Futility Closet podcast, which provided me with the story I used to get this damna...

thank you lovely people who have boosted/answered! we were directed to the fantastic Dare2dream (not on fedi that we know) who has been on Transplanar and does sensitivity reading/consulting

we received some fantastic insights that caught some serious problems in the approach we had been taking

if folks want to continue boosting the original post and dropping names there, that would still be wonderful!

we want to privately chat with an expert about handling speciesism and racism in TTRPG settings.

we're be happy to pay for this, in particular with a black, queer, and disabled expert, but would also be happy to be sent links to read or books to buy written by someone with experience and perspective that we can't have.

if you're the person for us, reply, mentions, DM, etc are all fine, but you also can email us at [email protected]

please boost!
