I am a phonetician, linguist, and fieldworker. I care! Black Americans are some of the most forgiving people on Earth when it comes to our own. Wannabe Sen. “don’t think, just sign here” was willing to pillory ALL of Black America (and Right thinking America) to sit at the Master’s table and engorge himself. He shouldn’t be allowed back in good company.

“I don’t particularly care that Herschel Walker doesn’t seem to know he’s being used.”

So, my recent fieldwork seems to show that Triqui speakers just do not like multiple adjectives in possessed noun phrases. So, it's fine to say "the big red dog", but "my big red dog" is just bad. One has to say "my red dog that is big." Languages are funky.

(3) Cha43 kwe1saj1 ngo2ke1 pizza

A thing I realized about peer review is that if you work in a particularly niche area, the same handful of people are going to be asked to review your work every time. Part of it is an expertise problem, though of course we also suffer from geographic bias in terms of looking for reviewers. But even if the pool seems small, it means you don't get a wide range of input on your work over time. It seems problematic to have to write a paper so Reviewer Smith will be sure to approve of it.

And I think that this is so often why people go back to the Linguistics Wars or to a long posting about Chomsky. It's not about theoretical developments in the field at all - it's about all those who were pushed out of it or sidelined.
