Cawbird was a GTK-based Twitter client for Linux that started adding Mastodon support. It is now archived and abandoned.

Also found Tuba by @GeopJr in issue 317.

Not only that, but they say "Tuba is for the fediverse what Cawbird was for Twitter"!

(Not that I remember @cawbird ever getting a Hot Picks mention! 😁)

Thanks to everyone who supported us through the years - either as users, bug reporters, testers, packagers or occasional contributors.

We're sorry that #NewCaw did not come in to being. But for those using Mastodon and the Fediverse, we're sure there's other great clients out there that could use your support.

Development of #Cawbird #NewCaw is suspended indefinitely.

@CodedOre was leading the rewrite, but is too busy with university commitments - https://mastodon.online/@CodedOre/110395875840491711
@ibboard was considering stepping down but hadn't announced anything.

Musk has killed Twitter as a platform, so NewCaw's original focus on multi-platform support is dead. There are other Mastodon clients available. The dev team don't have the time/interest to build another.

I have been considering it for a while now and I think it's best to officially step aside from this project. I could assist if someone wants to continue the work, but I will not continue the main work on it.

So, it's been a while since my last update, but now I have something to show again!

A bit ago I made a overhaul on the data class showing timelines, so we can make it more flexible.

One example for the added flexibility:
We now display pinned posts in the details page of the user!

Cawbird's #NewCaw is very much still alpha software. Some stuff won't work. Things may break.

But the source code is available at https://github.com/CodedOre/NewCaw/ and @ibboard occasionally builds packages from `main` plus some extras for openSUSE Tumbleweed at https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:IBBoard:desktop/cawbird

“Ehy @CawbirdClient is there a way to start using your on-progress gtk4 rewrite?”

What a week! A new issue of #ThisWeekInGNOME is now online!

Just before #TWIG, I finished initial support for displaying content warnings on posts.

It's still not fully as I like it, but it's already a good step.

A few things happened this weekend:

Besides a few fixes, #NewCaw can now show when a link you added to your user page was verified by the server.

And today, I was able to merge the work of @ibboard to like and repost the posts. First time #NewCaw has some interactivity!

I hope that I can add a few bigger things in the coming weeks.

Well, hello everyone!
Since I haven't posted an update since months again, here is a small update:

While I was busy in the last time with university, half of the work on #NewCaw was rendered pointless...

I have just now merged the branch with the rework on how accounts and sessions are managed, also thanks to @ibboard who has provided the last fixes needed to make it work.
However, these fixes also included the removal of the Twitter backend, as there isn't an API for it anymore.
