Long time listener, first time caller!
I recently joined Jared Samuelson from CIMSEC's Sea Control podcast to talk about my book on coastal State jurisdiction over living resources in the exclusive economic zone.
We had a great chat about jurisdiction, sovereignty, fisheries, state practice, and more. If you'd like to give it a listen, you can find it on the Sea Control website:
....or wherever you normally get your podcasts!
Dr. Camille Goodman joins the podcast to discuss her book Coastal State Jurisdiction over Living Resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone, and fisheries, enforcement, UNCLOS, and more. Dr. Goodman is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Postgraduate Studies at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security at the University of Wollongong with a background in public policy and significant experience as a legal adviser to government. She is also a Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University College of Law. This episode was edited and produced by Marie Williams.
Heartfelt thanks to all those who made last week's launch of my book possible - and wonderful!
I am particularly grateful for the insightful, generous comments from the panel (@proftimstephens, Henry Burmester and Sue Robertson), and the support of ANU CIPL Director Imogen Saunders, who set the tone for a wonderfully warm event with a constructive and substantive discussion.
Thanks also to the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation and the Attorney-General's Department for their support of the event (and the whole project!), and to ANU College of Law for hosting it in their lovely Moot Court venue.
Under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, coastal States have sovereign rights to explore, exploit, conserve, and manage the living resources of the 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ). However, 40 years after the adoption of the Convention, there is still a great deal of uncertainty about the nature and extent of these sovereign rights.
Hello Mastodonians! I'm Camille Goodman.
I live on Ngunnawal/Ngambri land near Canberra, and work at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong, on Yuin country.
I'm an international lawyer specialising in law of the sea, international fisheries and, increasingly, offshore energy. I'm really excited about the potential of offshore wind - for Australia and for the world.
I've just published a short piece about the legal framework that will unlock Australia's vast offshore wind resources & unleash more renewable energy superpowers. You can check it out here:
