I personally found Chino's willingness to assert Indigenous sovereignty refreshing, but think his analysis of capitalism and the environment was flawed.

And I would argue, set northern NM on a course of economic disparity that has only worsened since.

What was really wonderful to read was how many took advantage of the opportunity!

Yes, the text references 2.4k sites that have been contaminated by LANL. Many organizations, like Tewa Women United for example, are actively working to hold LANL accountable (including clean up) and for the return of their ancestral lands that were lost during the Manhattan Project.

Was saddening to read that even through much of the 20th century, violence was still the political language of New Mexico, as evidenced by the firebombing of Reies Lopez Tijerina's home. Again, I was unaware the "Wild West" lasted so long.

Reies Lopez Tijerina's towering intellect is evidenced by securing his own non guilty verdict after having just 30 minutes to prep a defense. "Impressive" doesn't begin to describe

Was very inspired and proud to read of the intersectional work by Reies Lopez Tijerina and the Republic of San Joaquin del Rio Chama. For many reasons it's unfortunate that these stories are not more widely taught in school, not least because the subject matter would no doubt interest and engage the students.

I thought the imposition of patriarchy by not recognizing women as owners of land by the new state was deeply unfortunate.
