#Hist2110 Unit 6 10/10

I personally found Chino's willingness to assert Indigenous sovereignty refreshing, but think his analysis of capitalism and the environment was flawed.

Was saddening to read that even through much of the 20th century, violence was still the political language of New Mexico, as evidenced by the firebombing of Reies Lopez Tijerina's home. Again, I was unaware the "Wild West" lasted so long.

Reies Lopez Tijerina's towering intellect is evidenced by securing his own non guilty verdict after having just 30 minutes to prep a defense. "Impressive" doesn't begin to describe

Was very inspired and proud to read of the intersectional work by Reies Lopez Tijerina and the Republic of San Joaquin del Rio Chama. For many reasons it's unfortunate that these stories are not more widely taught in school, not least because the subject matter would no doubt interest and engage the students.

I thought the imposition of patriarchy by not recognizing women as owners of land by the new state was deeply unfortunate.

I think the response by Anglos to artificial fibers in Navajo rugs is really fascinating; it Settler pressures on the Navajo to abandon natural fibers and dyes, then it was Settler pressure to make them return to them, simply for Settler's benefits.

I think traditional Pueblo life does have lessons, like localized socialism, to teach the modern, industrialized world that's built on consumption. We need to, however, guard against notions of the Noble Savage, which is just a different manifestation of racism and imperialism.

I'll admit that I have some of the same preconceived notions of Pueblo life as Luhan did. The difference--I hope--is that I'm not telling anyone how to live, and I'm having those who ostensibly have something to teach me waiting on me while I live in luxury.

I wish Pablita Velarde's paintings was better known among NM's youth because her work has direct lessons for today's trend of super heroes, comic books, and graphic novels. An Indigenous, woman's voice is so important in that space.

I found Pablita Velarde's paintings very impressive. I thought her color palette, proportions, and composition were all very strong, in addition to her interesting and moving subjects. She was also very funny!
