Now VMware Fusion cannot auto-update itself (or even notify you of updates) because Broadcom doesn't believe in distributing software (even updates to a free app!) without a painful registration and verification process. I had to enter my home address, agree not to export the software or something, and now am told “Account verification is Pending. Please try after some time.”.
Fusion is done. Maintenance mode at best.

Fuck you Broadcom. What a sad end for a great Mac app (and company).

I've been a user of VMware Fusion since the pre-1.0 betas, bought many versions of it over the years, and evangelized it over Parallels because of the native AppKit UI and solid underpinnings. I stuck with it through the US engineering team being laid off, and then the Broadcom purchase, but I think I've finally given up.
@mgs It’s interesting that in 15 months, nothing has changed with the Walmart MacBook Air. Still M1, no RAM bump or price change (although bought online it’s only $650 now). Maybe there’s been enough success there that Apple sees a market for this A-series MacBook?

So, "macOS 26".

Will they get rid of the California name also? I personally hope not, they add character, are generally harder to confuse than a number, and provide a distinct theme for backgrounds/screen savers.

And, will they also sync up the Darwin kernel version and build number with the overall product version? If they don't, macOS 26 will be build 25A1234 and return '25.0.0' to 'uname -r’. I can't see a downside in syncing those all up.

End of an era: AFP client support is deprecated in macOS 15.5. Deprecating stuff in an OS months after release is weird, I wonder if this change wasn't supposed to ship until macOS 16.
