Who am I? Dutch guy, living in the US since the early 2000's. Business analyst by day, KSP rocket scientist by night.

Former Excel guru; I still know more than you'll ever forget but I prefer working in #Pandas and building automated reports in #Python.

Big fan of the #Expanse (both the TV show and the books)

Is it just me, or do the deficit hawks in Washington magically disappear when Republicans are in charge and explode the national debt?

The notion that the GOP actually cares about the deficit is one of the biggest lies in American politics.

@rbreich it's funny how the Right's reluctance to accept scientiicf theories - evolution, vaccines, global warming, where "alternative views should be studied as well" goes out of the window with this economic theory.
@AlSweigart finally someone asking the *real* questions! While on the subject, why do they refer to text as “a string of characters” and not just “text?” It’s not like Python has a `char` type - those are just text variables with a length of 1.
@mgorny for readability probably the best way is to embed it in a "remove_extra_spaces" function and then implement it as desired.
@alasaarela "But how will people vote for us if we teach them to recognize misinformation?"

@s_gruppetta when I grew up, high school math rapidly turned to algebra, trigonometry and geometry, a big turnoff for many. It's like exposing fresh readers to Nietzsche.

The trick is to find *real* real-world problems. Not trains riding from A to B, but which of five pokemon is the best? What fortnight gun gets you most bang for the buck? What was the most popular movie in scvhool? Do the results differ from year to year?
"That, too, is math, and why you need to practice at it."

@AlSweigart I find your lack of faith disturbing.
When the person you're insulting is half a decade past being the little schoolgirl you think you can intimidate. #savage
A tale of two presidents.
Just upgraded to #python 3.11 for windows. Apparently, after many headaches in 3.10, the support for windows .chm help files has been deprecated very silently. Not a big deal, but mentioning it would have saved me some work figuring out where those files went.
