Glad to see Pies n Thighs is still good. And yeah, the Rock Star building is pretty ugly.

Between 1970 and 1980, the population of north Brooklyn (including Bushwick and South Williamsburg) dropped by 26% - almost 80,000 people. As of 2020, that loss has finally been recovered and the population is now about where it was in 1960 (about 325,000).
Somehow researching an 1870s building on South 4th Street led me to an article about the founding of the Knickerbocker Wheel, Rod & Gun Club in 1884. Their clubhouse was located at the corner of Lee Avenue and Penn Street (not sure which corner, but the building is still there). The Knickerbocker Club came about over a disagreement about the Kings County Wheelmen’s Association. Looking at the names, most or all of the founders were of German heritage.
