I also added full unit testing behind the scenes which bought up a few really old bugs that have been squished.

Give it a try.

App Store

After a fairly long period, version 2.3.5 of NetScore is now live on the store.

I took over this app and its taken a while to get up to speed and put a plan into place that will move the app forward.

This update makes use of UINavigationController to replace the custom navigation that the app had. The app was originally built before UINavigationController existed.

The Theme system has also been updated to support the app going forward as I look to update everything. (1/2)

It’s quite surprising how predatory in-app ads are on a lot of “free” games and apps. They mimic Apple UI and alerts with messages of “virus found”, “your data will be deleted” etc etc trying to scare people into clicking download. I never fall for it but my mum with FTD does daily.

Any solutions? She has Apple Arcade but still uses other “free” games. Do I have to lock it down and kiosk mode her iPad?

Just feels wrong that these types of ads are even allowed.

This exact same thing is about to happen in Australia and no one seems to care. Hurtling full pace at it.

I just want to point you to this short and well written piece about the Online Safety Act. I predicted this years ago, and the outcomes, as many others did. It desperately needs to be repealed, and the EU needs to take note on the harms it would bring to implement similar. https://www.techdirt.com/2025/08/04/didnt-take-long-to-reveal-the-uks-online-safety-act-is-exactly-the-privacy-crushing-failure-everyone-warned-about/

It’s blows my mind how ridiculous this is.

How is this making YouTube safer for young people? It’s essentially making their viewing totally anonymous and lets them view anything?

Shouldn’t the Government be educating adults on how to effectively use YouTube kid accounts? or effectively monitor their childs social media usage? or subsidising effective filters to remove that traffic coming into the house? rather than just throwing an uneducated blanket ban out?

Who is advising the Government on this? (2/3)

I’ve been looking into this a but more. The YouTube ban for under 16’s in Australia means that they won’t be able to have accounts but can still browse.

This means the current child account that parents can make that allow them to add content filters, have family friendly ads (or no ads with YouTube premium account), view a watch history to check, etc will no longer be a thing. (1/3)

The announcement today about YouTube accounts being restricted to people under 16 (Note, still able to browse YouTube but just can’t have an account)….

YouTube already requires young people to be above 13 to have an account, they can get one though with parental supervision.

So how exactly does this change anything?

The announcement today feels more like an uneducated “people pleaser”media moment than anything.

Where do I go to read the technical paper on how the Australian Government plans to make companies enforce the social media ban?

I’m pretty sure, with all things technical, there will be a simple way around it and all it’s likely to do is make it harder for genuine people and open the door for even more hacks and personal information leaks.

Honestly feels like a uinformed and uneducated plan that isn’t going to solve the root of the problem.
