NASA has launched its Artemis II mission, and commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and mission specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen are at the very start of their 10-day journey around the moon. Follow along with @notnixon's feed, created with Surf.

Discord now requires age verification, and why you should reconsider the age-old forum

We're not even two months into 2026, and yet another large social media network has done the seemingly unthinkable and instituted a policy that triggers a mass exodus.

I am of course talking about Discord's roll-out of age verification globally, across the entire site.

https://www.theverge.com/tech/875309/discord-age-verification-global-roll-out

Not only will they require age verification, Discord is also utilising AI technology to analyze your content and habits to infer your age.

https://community.nodebb.org/post/106594

Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month

Starting in March, all Discord users will have a β€œteen” experience by default unless they complete age verification using a video selfie or ID.

Now it's clearly time to let iOS users give #HolosSocial a try. It's still early, but no reason to keep delaying the iOS release. The project is mature enough for both Android and iOS.

πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ I see you.

I respect your work to build safe spaces in the fediverse.

Thank you.

πŸ“ Migrating infrastructure off Coolify #Development #Webdev #Docker #Coolify #Tailscale

I've spent a while recently migrating my personal infrastructure off Coolify. Coolify's an excellent tool and one that helped manage the initial learning curve of managing and deploying things when I started to self host things. As I got more comfortable with the process, issues and details I found myself wanting to remove it as an...

Nice to see a Mastodon shout-out on The Daily Show last night, thanks to @eff Executive Director Cindy Cohn!

It's a longer segment, with some interesting nuance around social media and censorship later in the conversation.

A great new toolset just opened up from @Flipboard enabling users to browser, sort, sift through literally thousands of federated "magazines," brand or org accounts, and fipboard TV accounts - all federating out and ready to copy and paste into your Fediverse app to follow.

Searchable and sortable in every way you can imagine (by most followers, newest, by language, etc)

Check it out.

Announcing Mitra Mini v0.1.0

Mitra Mini is an ActivityPub client that implements nomadic identity. It has become stable enough that I decided to cut the first release.

The basic features have been implemented: posts, reposts, likes. For more information, check the project's readme:

https://codeberg.org/silverpill/minimitra

It all started nearly four years ago with a vague idea that linking cryptographic keys to #ActivityPub actors could unlock decentralized identity in Fediverse. Eventually, the solution was discovered, and implemented by several projects, but these implementations were servers, not clients. Now there is finally a client, and the design has been proven to work well.
