#doowop is one of those genres which everyone seems to love but which has never been able to make a modern comeback. Which is fine because the great stuff recorded should be how the genre is remembered. #SongOfTheWeek is The Marcels, "Blue Moon". Featuring a catchy "bompbompada badangadangdang" vocal, every element is superb and basically perfect. The lead singer pleading for his lover, the baritone doing baritone things ("BLUUUUUEEEEEE MOOOOOOON"). #vinyl #1960s

#AlbumOfTheWeek is a 1979 great. While it maintains some of the herky jerky weirdness of "Go 2" ("Helicopter", "Outside World", "Scissor Man"), #xtc "Drums & Wires" moves towards craftsmanship. Acoustic guitars ("Ten Feet Tall") and trumpets ("That Is the Way" [a sleeper]) along with second guitarist Dave Gregory, expand the sound. Other than the (bad) closer, this album is "girdle"d with hit after hit, starting with opener single "Making Plans for Nigel". Really reel. #newwave #vinyl
#SongOfTheWeek involves a dance-pop diva pivoting into a guitar based sound. Normally that is awkward and embarrassing. But #KylieMinogue has the warbly and hesitant vocals to make the Britpop-ish "Some Kind Of Bliss" work. Press and fans didn't warm to the sound, nor the trip-hop elements on the accompanying (good) "Impossible Princess". But "Bliss" is blast of joy, one of her finest singles. "Can't Get You Out of My Head" doesn't happen without the diversion #90s

#AlbumOfTheWeek was the first great album by #u2. Lacking the humor and humility of some of the 90s albums, "War" is still a stellar rock LP. Think of the hits: "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year's Day" and "Two Hearts Beat as One" (very underrated). The album features some awkward moments like "Refugee" but even those contain some signs of greatness". "Surrender" and "'40'" remain to me 2 of their finest album tracks. The production is crisp and loud, the melodies invigorating. #vinyl #80s
I am getting a kick out of this album cover #yachtrock #vinyl #trio
#AlbumOfTheWeek is a #90s classic featuring #stevemackey on bass, may he rest in power. A great album from start to finish, & song to song, this was in heavy rotation as a teenager. Jarvis Cocker showed you could be a gangly dork and be the coolest dude in the room. "Common People", "I Spy", "Disco 2000", "Live Bed Show", "Bar Italia" and the list of bangers go on. #pulp "Different Class" is in a school of its own. Was happy to see it performed live at Radio City Music Hall. #britpop #pop
The #SongOfTheWeek is ubiquitous, appearing in ads, overplayed to hell on radio. And yet I love it. Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine” wasn’t a true one hit wonder (they released two fine albums before re-recording a number of those songs for their 3rd album). It does shine over their other stuff, Which is fine as this song is so amazing, so joyous, so catchy, it destroys a lot of #80s #pop songs. It never ceases to not cause me to sing to it. #vinyl
