I was part of the Kolektiva mod team from December 2020 to November 2022. This is not my personal account on the fediverse.

Hey PSA

If you're going to talk about the #fediblock tag but not actually use your post as a proper warning for other instances, don't use the "# "

I don't. If I need to mention something fediblock adjacent, I write the word but I just don't tag it.

Because otherwise you flood the tag with posts that don't function the way the tag needs to and ppl got sift thru stuff for actual useful info.

Pls, stop.

#fediadmin

Historically, there was a way to remove a user's avatar/PFP without otherwise bothering them. Has that option been deprecated? Is there now another way to do it that I don't know?

this workshop is pyramid scam for signing up ppl for kolektiva ;D

What follows is a generic message to send to users who report Twitter profiles reproduced by a BirdsiteLive instance. The #kolektivamod team has received quite a few such reports in recent days. I expect we will continue to receive such reports until/unless Twitter finally crashes and burns.

Other #fediadmin friends: feel free to use or adapt this message for your own purposes.

*****

The profile you reported is on a BirdsiteLive instance - perhaps beta.birdsite.live, the flagship instance, or otherwise a version of the same program/software deployed at a different web address.

BirdsiteLIVE is a useful tool that reproduces the content of any Twitter profile in a format that is readable on a Mastodon instance like Kolektiva.social; it is a useful tool for browsing Twitter without directly providing personal metadata to Elon Musk's company. In this way, it is similar to Nitter. See the GitHub, e.g. the site that hosts and explains the code, which is open-source: https://github.com/NicolasConstant/BirdsiteLive

If you reported an account for "impersonation", this is not the case; it's similar to saying your website is meant to be viewed in Chrome, and it's being impersonated when it's being viewed in Firefox.

If you reported an account because of its noxious ideology, please be aware that the account is actually hosted on Twitter, and that the reason you came across it is probably because you, or someone in your network, looked it up. Since there are valid reasons to look up what fascists are saying - for instance, as a form of research - there is typically no reason for Kolektiva.social to take action. You may consider, however, blocking beta.birdsite.live as a domain or blocking/reporting accounts that boost noxious content from (effectively) Twitter.

@grrrr_shark Usually people post with #fediblock to talk about instances that are bad actors. There used to be a website, but that seems to be down now

For what it's worth, here's some reports we got about @[email protected] before that account was suspended in August 2021:

1. "ableism and trolling"
2. "sinophobic racism"
3. "anti-vax"
4. "badjacketing"
5. "harassing anarchists"
6. "sympathizing with fascists"
7. "throwing around unprincipled accusations of being a fed informant"

pt. 2 of 2

I think Kolektiva.social should aim for wide federation. But as a big, somewhat "generalistic" instance - a free service for helping the masses get off spyware social media - we will have problem users from time to time. It is a challenge we are trying to meet, and in the right way too

I do not think this - or other conversations that involve single problem users on "generalistic" instances - needs to be a fediblock-level issue

but I'll alert @HgO @vanecx and @Ilja all the same

Some more fediblock meta to chew on, pt. 1 of 2

The user @heretical_i (whose account was limited by @subMedia earlier today) is saying Kolektiva monitors its users' conversation. Not true. We're anarchists and we hate surveillance capitalism

Many of the posts are deleted, but it's hard to believe the Kolektiva user (not involved in the admin or mod side of this Mastodon instance) was in the wrong. In August 2021, I apparently deleted @[email protected] after it received 17 reports

I meant to say "raises the profile of the bad posts"
