Hey PSA

If you're going to talk about the #fediblock tag but not actually use your post as a proper warning for other instances, don't use the "# "

I don't. If I need to mention something fediblock adjacent, I write the word but I just don't tag it.

Because otherwise you flood the tag with posts that don't function the way the tag needs to and ppl got sift thru stuff for actual useful info.

Pls, stop.

@CaribenxMarciaX Do you have a recommended alternative for meta-discussions of fediblocking? Just use #MastoAdmin ? #FediblockMeta ? Something else?

There seems to be a need (or at least a desire) for discoverable meta-discussion, would be interested in your take on where that should llve.

@tw I dont think there needs to be a tag for that personally.

I do fine talking about it with out needing a tag and moving on where it needs to go.

And in my experience, meta conversations can lead to something gnarly for the person[s] at the center.

and i worry that a tag of that would just make ppl's lives hell

not sure what you need with conversations that orbit fediblock, maybe you can expand and i answer better

@CaribenxMarciaX I have become aware of interesting discussions via the use of the hashtag. A few examples from just scrolling through a few pages:

https://journa.host/@e_urq/109410027834491379

https://queer.af/@erincandescent/109405425239986386

I don't necessarily agree with all of the takes in all of those threads, but they're all interesting and IMO valuable conversations that are worth having and having discoverable.

@[email protected] Yep! Moderation is tricky. But what I think is annoying is admin’s blocking entire instances due to a few bad apples or the instance is struggling with moderation (even though most—if not all—of the larger instances are trying to moderate). That is why I advocate people simply do solo hosting & connecting to the #Fediverse from their lone instance. It’s easier to navigate through the #Fediblock feuds & connect with interesting people from every federated instance.

@tw sure thats fair

come up w a tag

again, i dont think they should be dumped in the fediblock tag

@[email protected] you can also post as unlisted with the full #, to make it clickable in your post but at the same time avoiding to flood the hashtag feed! That's something I wish was more known and common

@darckcrystale @CaribenxMarciaX I have used #fediblock in meta discussion (as I'm doing here) but by default I post "unlisted." ♥️

AFAIK this does not interfere with intended use of #fediblock? Right?

@CaribenxMarciaX or put a space between the # and the word if you're doing a joke
(but also u said not to do a thing while literally doing the thing? so I'm a bit confused abt that)
@raphaelmorgan i had to otherwise how will ppl in the tag know that im talking to them...
@CaribenxMarciaX I haven't been on in a few days due to the holiday. What is that tag supposed to be used for and has something important happened in the last 75ish hours that I should know about?
@CaribenxMarciaX @gingerrroot thank you! So effing annoying for mods having to sift through peoples opinions on fediblock when I’m just looking for info on how to protect our instance members
@CaribenxMarciaX so you're saying that if you're a bad actor, you just need to flood that hashtag and you might escape widespread defederation?

I suppose we could propose another tag #FediblockMeta or something for discussion of the tag/practice?
