@mars1024 the tradeoff is that new posts become harder to find and instances can start to become echo chambers, a bit like subreddits.

The algorithm behind which toots are easy to find is one of the key defining things for a social media platform.

It would be cool if instances had the option to enable/disable features like that - since it's not a one size fits all.

@lashman I somehow missed the Cuphead DLC release this year. I know what I'll be playing today

@kylejs if more celebrities / influencers / reporters start using Mastodon then I think they'll bring the masses with them.

Question is whether Masto will feel the same if that does happen.

@slimepsychic was wondering why I have a million cats running around my fortress. That's a useful tip

@SumocatR it's the same game with a new graphical interface. It's got a tutorial now as well.

The original game was almost impossible to learn/play without a lot of mods. The new version is now playable out of the box.

@tgrunfit just finished watching it. Great movie!
Journalists will never stick around this app long term sadly unless it adds quote posting. We desperately need it to communicate effectively, build on each others ideas, and add crucial context to posts. These are things replies simply do not accomplish. Also quote posting or reblogging does not = harassment! Tumblr, for instance, has had the feature since the beginning. We need it here now too 🙏🏻
@SumocatR will be playing a lot of #dwarffortress these holidays. The recent Steam release is great!

@myx it's pretty typical for them. So much time spent on starting / killing services due to what I can only think is a lack of product vision and foresight.

The Google graveyard has grown a lot over the years: https://killedbygoogle.com/

Killed by Google

Killed by Google is the open source list of dead Google products, services, and devices. It serves as a tribute and memorial of beloved services and products killed by Google.

Killed by Google

@myx search with ChatGPT is such a streamlined experience. The fact that Google wasn't able to implement a product like this first is an indicator that they may well be left behind.

One thing for sure is that there's going to be a lot of competition from both big tech and smaller startups in this space over the next few years.
