builder of networks, dad, husband, city fan - these words are my own (unless I borrowed them) - (he/him) ๐Ÿ”ถ

Whenever I'm in trouble, I think, 'What would Jesus do?'

Then I pretend to be dead and disappear for 3 days.

On today's Transgender Day of Visibility we call upon the leadership of the Liberal Democrats to end their shameful silence about the increasing attacks on and marginalisation of trans people, including by this government. Support in private isn't good enough if publicly you're a bystander to hate.
Hey cis people: instead of going "ohhh woooow you people are soooooo braaave" while forgetting to cancel your HBO Max subscription or whatever, why not participate in today's most delicious of festivities?

FUN FACT: the "nano" prefix ultimately descends from Ancient Greek "nanos", which means "dwarf".

Consequently, translating "nanotechnology" as "dwarven machinery" is arguably defensible.

#NetMCR (https://www.netmcr.uk/) is on again this Thursday (12th) in #Manchester.

The talk will be by Mark Tearle, titled:

โ€˜It is a disaster! Reacting to the Unexpectedโ€™*

Mark has flown across the world, avoiding flight disruptions, to present an interactive talk about disasters that befall networks, data centres and telecommunications infrastructure across the globe. A curated set of incidents will be discussed and the question posed - how would you or your organisation respond?

Go and chat with some nice people, have some weird ๐Ÿป, and if you're hungry, ๐Ÿ” and ๐ŸŸ!

I just documented the protocol that udev uses to broadcast messages to clients: https://arcanenibble.github.io/hardware-hotplug-events-on-linux-the-gory-details.html

Comes with bonus free sample code <strike>on the included CD-ROM</strike>!

This is how programs on Linux listen for events such as "you plugged in a USB device" in order to.... do something useful with that information (such as opening the files on it). Normally, this "just works", but the low-level details of _how_ it works doesn't seem to be that well known.

boosts ok!

Maybe the code shouldn't be the only documentation?
