@mmasnick It's funny because my mom found this video on Facebook and thought (because of our not-unfriendly political discourse) Dad and I would be interested to see it. I saw the first few seconds and knew exactly what video it was. And my dad later parrots, "This is extremely dangerous to our democracy." I don't know whose idea it was to convince the Republicans that this video is leftist media indoctrination when listening to it screams Republican dogwhistles and you can look up every single one of these news stations individually, maybe even on their own websites, and find out that they're all actually owned by Sinclair.
(Just to prove it to myself, I looked up a few of these stations with "sinclair", which showed each station's website and a text about Sinclair, and I took screenshots, but they won't post here for some reason.)
@atomicpoet @[email protected] well, no more ich_iel or fuckcars for me (the posts of those types over here are quite lacking)
@atomicpoet @sequel I've been thinking, it should be fully possible with Gemini and possibly Titan (uploads for Gemini) to build a Gemtext based Mastodon client, or an entire purpose built Gemini-and-AP server. ActivityPub could be ran through Gemini but for federation's sake it probably would still run through HTTPS. It's better suited for that kind of usage anyway.
@jebba @atomicpoet @wilf @[email protected] Its something you don't want to do but it's good for you. So yeah. Might make more sense if you picture it with a little kid being told he has to eat his broccoli to be allowed to leave the table.
@notthatkaren @mastodonmigration @tchambers mstdn.social has blocked the Flipboard domain.
@BrennanCenter I'm pretty sure writing a new amendment would be enough to solve the issue. The problem is getting such a thing to pass the NRA.

Russia uses its courts to silence critics, and now prosecutes about 50 espionage cases a year, almost all of which end in a guilty verdict.

Now they are holding an American, my colleague Evan Gershkovich, and have refused to grant bail.

Evan is allowed out of his cell only once a day.

He will not get a public jury trial.

Anyone seeing @notjustbikes 's video on SUVs will be glad to read this article from WIRED:

1. You ever heard of "embrace, extend, extinguish"?

2. doesn't iOS run some variation of BSD? Don't most computers run Windows or macOS (based on the UNIX but not Linux Darwin kernel)? For everything else, it's so far gone from its GNU/Linux roots that there's no meaning in calling them that, like saying Truth Social is a Mastodon instance, or WhatsApp is an XMPP provider.
@rasterweb @evan I can offer no solution. There is no solution.
