How the NRA Rewrote the Second Amendment

The Founders never intended to create an unregulated individual right to a gun. Today, millions believe they did. Here’s how it happened.

Brennan Center for Justice
@BrennanCenter
The founders didn't consider a "regulated militia" to be shooting kids in schools. Or churches, or grocery stores, or banks, or ...
@BrennanCenter I'm pretty sure writing a new amendment would be enough to solve the issue. The problem is getting such a thing to pass the NRA.
@BrennanCenter When arguing against this amendment, written in the infancy of ballistic weapons development, why doesn’t its lack of relevancy in actual current realities apply to its very existence? Does SCOTUS not consider anything but a single scribbled sentence and it’s countenance and oblique meaning? Why does something so anachronistic still have so much sway over the existential truth? It seems that all other arguments are just academic nonsense over an historical oddity.

@Fernhead @BrennanCenter
I have $3 that says that GOP SCOTUS judges care about the $500,000 "gifts" they get from Harlan Crow and their ilk, and will engage in whatever tort necessary to ensure that they get their wishes.

None of this is about words or interpretation.

@DoesntExist @BrennanCenter then we are in agreement that the current form of SCOTUS is itself anachronistic and must be reformed.
