@daringfireball Yeah, but imagine if they did *anything* that isn’t just supporting Trump.

You wouldn’t need to write pieces explaining away why it’s OK for IBM to be selling calculators to the Nazis.

I mean, what else could anyone do, right?

I think this is the left’s “Thoughts and Prayers”.

@viticci best I can tell, transparent UI exists only in movies, and only so we can see the actors faces through the screens.

I’m not sure why else you would want all that stuff behind it making your “content” unreadable.

@paul I believe anything categorised as news at the very top is free. Everything else is paywalled.

@jsnell @marcoarment I generally agree for many features and experiments, but this feels like if Apple designers watched Indiana Jones and thought it was a fun movie so designed door handles that required putting your hand in a hole full of bugs to operate.

Then the collective weight of all feedback in a narrow period yells No! and Apple responds with “Fewer bugs?” Leading to us being grateful it wasn’t worse.

The issues are not obscure usability quirks easily overlooked during design.

@vicmsong The idea of an inner monologue seems so weird to me. I have the thing that I’m thinking, and that’s about it.
I also have aphantasia, so no pictures or sounds in here either.
I write a lot (technical writing) but not sure how an inner monologue would help, but I’m also not really clear on what it actually is. The descriptions feel like they are making it up as a joke.
@atpfm The encryption conversation seems to focus on what happens in the UK or what all the other gov’s will also ask for, but something I’m not yet hearing discussed is can Apple even sell devices once they are known to have a backdoor to a foreign government?
Will any gov agency in any country allow the use of an iPhone knowing the UK (and of course anyone else) 100% has access?
Will any other anything?
Will I? Will you?
The hardest problem in computer science is trying to figure out how any Apple API works by just reading the docs.

“Tim Cook Is Failing Us”

“So yes, I do hold Tim to a higher standard than these other robber barons, but that’s because Tim claims he holds himself to those high standards. I am measuring him against the ruler that he has provided and he comes up short.”

Tim Cook Is Failing Us

@christianselig When dealing with power being on/off and how many volts, MM can be fine, but any type of signalling, amplification, etc and the o-scope makes it 100x easier to see and understand.
I got the Siglent 1104X-E and did the firmware hacks to get all the features. No regats.
@christianselig My son got into robotics and then I decided to do a Mech Eng degree for fun with a robotics major and so playing around with Arduino’s and basically anything with electronics and the o-scope lets you actually see what’s happening.
Seeing an input signal and an output at the same time and being able to see the transients etc really helps learning and understanding.
