Meta, Meta, Meta. So Meta. This Reuters report is 🔥

"Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show"

"Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, documents seen by Reuters show. And the social media giant internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day. Among its responses to suspected rogue marketers: charging them a premium for ads – and issuing reports on ’Scammiest Scammers.’

Yes, I really did create a musical to celebrate CARROT Weather’s 10th birthday. 15 songs, 40 minutes of music. I thought it’d be fun to release one song a day inside the app, so the complete story (in 2 acts!) will gradually be revealed over the course of two weeks.

All completely free - my thank you to everyone who has stuck with CARROT for all these years.

(And yes, as far as I know, CARROT is the first app with her very own musical.)

people often ask me; "Foone, you're an amateur physical media historian, when is it spelled disc, and when is it disk?"

Well it's simple!
Discs grow down from the ceiling, and disks grow up from the floor.

Between 2009 and 2012, iPhones had a built-in "Send to YouTube" button in the Photos app. Many of these uploads kept their default IMG_XXXX filenames, creating a time capsule of raw, unedited moments from random lives.

Inspired by Ben Wallace, I made a bot that crawled YouTube and found 5 million of these videos! Watch them below, ordered randomly.

One of the positive externalities of AI is that it’s accelerating the move away from fossil fuels to nuclear. Google, Microsoft and now Amazon have all announced plans to bring nuclear plants online.

Amazon goes nuclear, to invest more than $500 million to develop small modular reactors

Amazon is the latest large tech company to buy into nuclear power to fuel the growing demands from data centers.

a BBC tech newsletter attributed the attack on the Internet Archive to Have I Been Pwned, which is like blaming the weather service for hurricanes. https://view.email.bbc.com/?vawpToken=PXK7BQYTXZHE7E5HKHJHMC7V3M.60238

(they've apologized to Troy Hunt and said they'll put a correction in the next newsletter)

Never underestimate how much developers hate *writing*. It led them to create ChatGPT, and they will burn down the planet just to avoid writing a good PR message or, heaven forbid, documentation.
