Should I be concerned that the iOS 26.4 update has in its description the text: "Software updates, like this one, add new features and improvements that may affect performance and/or battery life"?

Or do they always say that?

Oh no! Xcode 26.4 requires macOS 26.2 or higher. I guess this is where I get off the Xcode train (for now).

It's clear that AI assisted coding is dividing developers (welcome to the culture wars!). I've seen a few blog posts now that talk about how some people just "love the craft", "delight in making something just right, like knitting", etc, as opposed to people who just "want to make it work". As if that explains the divide.

How about this, some people resent the notion of being a babysitter to a stochastic token machine, hastening their own cognitive decline. Some people resent paying rent to a handful of US companies, all coming directly out of the TESCREAL human extinction cult, to be able to write software. Some people resent the "worse is better" steady decline of software quality over the past two decades, now supercharged. Some people resent that the hegemonic computing ecosystem is entirely shaped by the logic of venture capital. Some people hate that the digital commons is walled off and sold back to us. Oh and I guess some people also don't like the thought of making coding several orders of magnitude more energy intensive during a climate emergency.

But sure, no, it's really because we mourn the loss of our hobby.

@mjtsai Apple could tell us that Liquid Glass remains the future, but maybe with a little humility? If iOS 27 (& company) are demonstrably better, fine, we can all pretend at some point that iOS 26 wasn't *that* bad. But if iOS 27 is not much better, well, I guess we're seeing the new normal with Apple. (See also: Apple Intelligence.)

@mjtsai I figured "Liquid Glass" is staying around, for a while anyway. More concerning to me was this:

« a massive part of the initial Liquid Glass rollout was simply ensuring the foundation was solid. It had to be functional, it had to meet incredibly strict styling guidelines across every single Apple platform, and most importantly, it just had to work »

Does Apple realize it failed here? That would be a problem.

@matt_garber @paul The only way they could juice the iOS 26 adoption numbers to look similar to iOS 18's?

For the past few weeks, I’ve been making an iOS app called Kandili. It’s an app that brings to life the Orthodox liturgical calendar, readings, and feast days; with custom typography and handcrafted design. It’s pretty niche, but I had a lot of fun making it and I’m excited to share it with y’all. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kandili/id6759779981

@bw Very nice! Beautifully laid out; I love the "Orthodox book" aesthetic.

I did not expect my "Incomparable" and "Orthodox mobile apps" streams to cross this morning. :)

Haven't heard of "Tecno"? Apparently they are particularly popular in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, India, Bangladesh and Egypt.
