First, it’s important to be precise when it comes to critical infrastructure like Signal. Signal was not “hacked” — in that our encryption, infrastructure, and the integrity of the app’s code was not compromised. 1/
The PHP Foundation wants to publicly share our support for the petition that aims to classify open source contributions as officially recognized volunteer work in Germany. This is a very important distinction for all our open source friends and community members living in Germany, but anyone can sign the petition. It would also be appreciated if you want to spread the word and help us help the organizers reach the 30,000 signatures required to bring it to quorum. 🙏 🐘 🚀

Das deutsche EUDI-Wallet (Sprind) setzt auf Google Play Integrity und Apple App Attest zur Geräteverifizierung – beides proprietäre Attestierungsdienste der jeweiligen Plattformhersteller.
Nach heutigem Dokumentationsstand ist für Android ein Aktivierungspfad vorgesehen, der Google Play Integrity voraussetzt. Ein degoogletes Android ohne Google-Play-Komponenten fällt damit voraussichtlich raus. Was das in der Praxis bedeutet: Kein Custom-ROM, kein entsperrter Bootloader, kein degoogeltes Android.
Der digitale EU-Ausweis – ein staatliches Identitätsmittel – hängt damit strukturell von Google und Apple ab. Ob das im Sinne digitaler Souveränität ist, darf jeder selbst beurteilen.

Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm. The user is never asked. Never told. LinkedIn’s privacy policy does not mention it. Because LinkedIn knows each user’s real name, employer, and job title, it is not searching anonymous visitors. It is searching identified people at identified companies. Millions of companies. Every day. All over the world.
