So far things I have seen:

* You can only add people you follow to a list.
* Lists are personal and cannot be shared with other people.

It seems the goal of lists is to have separate refined timelines of the people you follow.

@benlindsay @cygnetix The comparison to email seems right. And, like email, I suspect Greedy Corp would not be able to disconnect from the Mastodon ecosystem any easier than Gmail can disconnect from open internet email. I suspect you will also eventually see monetization in client apps as well.
