Is it a bad thing to be polarized? And what makes it bad? Is it okay at the individual level but not at the societal level? I've got some ideas and have read some of the literature, but I'm finding the question more substantive than just something edgy to ask. #philosophy #ppe #politics

Anyone on @lemmyworld here? Finding all the “federated” lingo, like “instances” and all that hard to track, and I’m even further from understanding how it all works. How is Lemmy working the way that it is? (Trying to find somewhere to go post-Reddit.)

People are talking about the like button a lot on here, which raises an interesting question: is @Mastodon responsible for crafting features in such a way that we opt to use them more, or is the lack of use of the like feature a signal that we've become formed to only do things when they're rewarded with something (algorithm points, for instance) rather than truthfully expressing our preferences in public?

Went on Twitter for the first time in a while, saw news about Elon choosing someone that people didn't like. Came on Mastodon after a long time away and found myself exposed to a metaphysical debate between @apodoxus and @mja - five points to house Mastodon!
