In 2011 I worked with the USGS who did research with the twitter API to try to detect natural disasters. Twitter and social media was a powerhouse emerging phenomena that gave marginalized and less heard voices a lot of power.
12 years later elon musk privatized the company.
Not even 6 months later the company disabled the API for that research.
Elon is no stranger to alienating and being hostile to the emergency management community as his tiny sub debacle reminds us.
I can never deactivate my twitter account because its suspended.
