@caseyliss was just listening to your after show re:zwave and just wanted to comment that after dealing with zwave as “addons” to other ecosystems, I found that dedicated hubs like Hubitat are the answer to having a lot less hassle with zwave (and Zigbee) - these tend to integrate as a bridge well with things like HA and the like. All the complexity is very nicely hidden.

I don't think I'll ever get over Clarence Thomas ruling on cases related to Jan 6 knowing that his wife was an active participant in the attempted coup.

Or ruling on cases related to govt regulations and a wealth tax knowing he took gifts from billionaires.

It's a disgrace.

Erin's talking about the Covid Tracking Project and how every day the team would wake up wanting to see the CDC finally get their data together...

Oh boy let me tell you How Hard It is To Build Government Technology and infrastructure like “knowing how many people have covid" and “where are vaccines”:

Why is it so hard to build government technology?

The pandemic has shown how difficult it can be for the US to succeed with major technology projects. We asked leading thinkers what they would do to change that.

MIT Technology Review

Erin: Our networks are *worse* now in 2024 than they were back when we created the covid tracking project. We wouldn't be able to do that now. The network is hostile to sociability, it's going underground to private discords, private slacks, partly because platforms have poisoned so much.

Unpopular opinion: the only rule for having a Wikipedia page about a topic should be : "Would someone in the world ever look for information about this topic on Wikipedia?"

The reason why some zealots try to remove "non-notable enough" pages is because they think it is a badge of honor to be on Wikipedia.

The reason why it is a badge of honor is because some zealots spend their time removing pages considered "non-notable enough".

"The #Trump campaign had initially agreed that Trump would participate in an interview with The Detroit News. But after the newspaper began asking about the #Michigan crime data ... the presidential candidate no longer had time for an interview."👇🏼

Trump returns to Michigan to talk crime, but data shows rates dropped after he left office

Tracking numbers for violent crime in the U.S. and Michigan have pointed to decreases from 2020, the last year of Donald Trump's first term, to 2022.

The #Harris campaign says about 15,000 people attended the Harris-Walz rally in Milwaukee last night.

The 23,500-person convention hall in Chicago was packed.

Obama on Trump: "It has been a constant stream of gripes and grievances that has actually gotten worse now that he's afraid of losing to Kamala."

Obama then does the accordion hands!
When I was kid my parents would buy us activity books to keep us quiet during long car rides. I always thought the "spot the ten things that are wrong with this picture" puzzles were just another pointless activity. Turns out it was training for spotting GenAI images.
The work of #Project2025 is largely done. Under Dans, it assembled a database of more than 10,000 job candidates — already vetted for their loyalty to #Trump — who will be ready to deploy into federal agencies should he win the 2024 election.

The Man Behind Project 2025’s Most Radical Plans

As Donald Trump tried to disavow the politically toxic project, its director, Paul Dans, stepped down. But the plans and massive staffing database that he prepared — to replace thousands of members of the “deep state” with MAGA loyalists — remain.
