This is a big problem for Mastodon.

Canadian journalist Erica Ifill just had her mastodon.online account suspended without explanation. She's been sharing stuff critical of Mastodon re: intersectional issues.

I get the decentralized structure and idea that each server has its own rules. But this Reddit-style moderation, where moderators with god-complexes make mysterious and arbitrary decisions, is going to cause people migrating to Mastodon to flee in droves.

2005: Rupert Murdoch paid $580m for Myspace.
2009: he sold it in $35m.

2008: Bebo was sold for $850m, to AOL. The founders later bought it back for $1m. It was regarded as one of the worst deals ever made in the dot-com era.

2013: Yahoo paid $1.1bn for Tumblr. 2019: they sold it in $3m.

Elon Musk paid $44bn for Twitter. If history has taught us anything it's that this isn't going to end well… when there wasn't a viable business model in the first place.

Strangely fascinating to see who from the chaos site has not yet opened shop here. Large parts of the natsec community are slower than I expected, with exceptions of course.
This seems like an appropriate first comic for mastodon.
Russian propagandist explains that Russia would use negotiations in order to regroup and invade again later. Just in case anyone was wondering why the Ukrainians don't trust Putin...

“Meanwhile in Russia: accused war criminal Zakhar Prilepin—who spends a lot of time on the frontlines and previously boasted of "killing many" in Ukraine—admits that Russia wants to negotiate merely to regroup and finish fighting later, any potential peace accords notwithstanding.”

Ah I see they added an iOS feature to the Mastodon app if you want to have more than one account. Maybe I’ll make a dedicated Jihadology one if that would be of interest to people.

There is far too little recognition of the fact that the US Intelligence Community’s ability to discover Russian invasion plans and share them with Ukraine is one of the greatest intelligence successes of the last 50 years and has had a critical impact on thwarting Putin’s imperialist ambitions.

They knew the Russian war plans better than most of the Russian military executing the invasion (who mostly had no idea they were going to war) and even members of Putin’s Security Council! Remarkable!
