Electrical engineer and computer scientist Harriet Rigas was born #OTD in 1934. Among other contributions, she developed the basic ideas that enable patching software without having to replace the entire program.

If you've ever upgraded an OS without having to reinstall the whole thing, you can thank Dr. Rigas.

@nicolesjchung Thank you for sharing. It's so powerful, your drawing attention to the extra suffering for family members, feeling they're not doing enough, when the system makes that position inevitable for all but the wealthy.
thank you Alicia Menendez for talking with me about grief, our broken healthcare system, and A Living Remedy on #AmericanVoices yesterday. Watch the clip here: https://msnbc.com/american-voices/watch/bestselling-author-speaks-on-why-healthcare-is-broken-and-grief-is-complicated-171844677813
Bestselling author speaks on why healthcare is broken and grief is complicated

Nicole Chung, bestselling author of new memoir “A Living Remedy,” joined American Voices to discuss how being adopted shaped the way she processed the loss of her parents to diabetes and cancer. She also explored how she views her parents as victims of a broken American Healthcare system.

I speak my truth to whiteness so that other folx with marginalized lived experiences won’t/don’t have to

White folx evaluate how often you insinuate yourselves ONTO the experiences of those without the privilege to tell you “no!”; how you take their lack of pushback as “agreement”

Trust me…it’s more than you think

Physicist Marietta Blau was born #OTD in 1894. She pioneered the use of nuclear emulsion plates for particle detection, and discovered "disintegration stars" produced by cosmic rays interacting with nuclei in the plates.

Are repeat COVID infections dangerous? What the science says

Researchers disagree over how bad it is to be reinfected, and whether COVID-19 can cause lasting changes to the immune system.

@Tinu I'm so sorry, you have been through so much. (Yells at the sky) give her a break! Sending support and hope that you feel better very soon

Feeling frustrated, so I decided to send a short letter to Montana State Representative Zooey Zephyr letting her know that I support her here from Colorado and denounce the speaking ban unjustly imposed on her.

The #garden so far. This week I spent time digging out the (local) quartz stones that edge it. They had sunk part way under soil and vegetation. There are a few more to dig out in the front left. The new bird bath is from Etsy. Now I hope to plant some flowers around it. The nice part of doing the work is the sound of birds singing around me. 💙

This picture is going to be printed in history books as a turning-point for transgender people in the US. The open question is, which direction will the turn be in?

I don't know, and I don't have ideas for what I can do, but we are on the cusp of big, scary changes that will affect everyone, not just trans people, not just minorities.

If you were waiting for a call to action, here it is. They just banned her from the MT House using the rules of decorum. What better metaphor for where we are?
