Excellent paper on why p-values are not measures of evidence by Johansson (that I missed when I wrote about the topic myself): https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1467-9450.2010.00852.x

This is the #embroidery I'm most proud of in terms of feeling like my stitching ability is improving.

This one was a gift for a family member, but I've since made two others for friends with the agreement that, instead of paying me for the work, they would donate at least $50 to an organization or mutual aid network that supports or enriches Black lives in some form.

This is what I aim to do more of in the new year, creating meaningful work where my payment goes to a cause I care about.

Every news outlet should stand up a Mastondon instance for their reporters & staff.

It’ll be great to see [email protected] or whatever domain they want to use.

Built in verification. Every reporter for the Washington Post on a washpo domain. Every reporter for the New York Times on an NYTimes domain. Etc, etc.

Plus the “local” feed for each instance becomes a feed of all the posts from that institution mixed together — providing extra discovery.

Here is an incomplete list of journalists that Elon Musk has suspended from Twitter today.

He also suspended the Twitter account of Mastodon.

Elon Musk bought Twitter in order to suppress free speech and consolidate control of the spaces in which public discourse takes place, as a means to advance his authoritarian quest for profit and power. It's necessary to oppose him the way we would fight against any aspiring tyrant, any oppressor.

Canary in the Coal Mine: Twitter and the End of Social Media

Is there life after social media? Will reactionary billionaires determine all we can imagine and do, or will we establish other forms of connection?

The best career advice I have:

Be kind. To everyone.

A good day. Huge thanks to the American Heart Association for believing in me and funding my postdoctoral work. Also a huge thanks to my mentor, @SunnyShinLab, for the unwavering belief in, and support of, me.

This success was preceded by 4 rejections, so I’m pretty darn proud of the effort. 🎉

What math do neuroscientists need to know?

A highlight of #SFN2022 was Ella Batty's answer to this question. She showed off an incredible math for neuroscientists course she has developed at Harvard with open materials (https://ebatty.github.io/MathToolsforNeuroscience/) and discussed her amazing work with Neuromatch Academy (https://compneuro.neuromatch.io/)

Her SFN slides are here: https://osf.io/s94b2
