I feel this post on many levels. Video games are probably my biggest hobby, yet I will never call myself a "gamer" because those kinds of people have tainted the word for me.
I've never cared about "the best" or "the right" way to play a game, I play them because I enjoy escaping my life for a bit and immersing myself into a different world.
These kinds of gamers usually don't understand that because it's all technical to them and they feel they have to assert their dominance of knowledge on the subject.
I don't think they will ever enjoy the game in the same way either, their loss.
There's a lot of sexism in gaming culture in general, but there's especially always going to be sad little boys who are intimidated by women liking ANYTHING they do. Video games, anime, comics it's all the same it threatens them. It all turns into competition and I've never understood it.
I'm male, but have always gotten on better with women so I dreamed of a day when there were more women playing video games and couldn't be happier with the way it is now.
My wife of ten years and I play games together all the time and it makes me happy and is a great bonding experience.
I hear you on the memory part too, I have trouble remembering things in games, books, shows whatever so when I play Skyrim or Fallout I constantly have to ask her where to find things and such so I'd dare somebody to question her on her knowledge of the games she plays. ^_^
We don't play any game the "right way", just how we want to. I think that's the way it was supposed to be.
I typed way more then I meant to and still didn't get all my points across, but the takeaway is play what and how you like and 🖕 those elitist gamers, they truly are sad inside. Sorry for the blog post and overuse of quotations.
