Drug Shortages – Profits Before Patients: A Screening of the ARTE Documentary & Debate on the EU’s Pharma Legislation

In 2022, the Franco-German channel ARTE broadcast the results of an international investigation by film company Découpages which looked at how pharmaceutical companies are putting profits before patients and benefitting from shortages of medicines in some areas to raise their prices.

#EMA and #HTA bodies together should ensure pre-registration platform trials meet regulatory and HTA requirements.

Giving EMA a mandate to initiate these trials can support drugs development in small populations more efficiently than turning to non-randomised studies.
