With each new surge of Mastodon users, I feel the need to point out:

1. Welcome!

2. There is a learning curve here, but most people find it short and not very steep. Play around, explore. You'll get it.

3. Lots of people are willing to help.

4. Yes, it's different than Twitter. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. But you'll figure it out.

5. With surges especially, things sometimes get slow/glitchy, but they usually get fixed pretty quick.

Be patient.

Honestly I still can't get over how russia is basically allowed to commit genocide on our land, run torture camps, bomb our hospitals, target our energy so we freeze and starve, but its escalation if we want to stop their bombers & missile launchers that are literally killing us

Thanks all for checking out WAYWARD -- if you liked the book and are so inclined to leave a review somewhere, I'd sure appreciate it.

If you *didn't* like it, you can leave a review too, but you should scream it into the ground. Find a hole, and yell it at some moles and voles. They'll know what to do with it, don't you worry.

@Livingmarble So I said, "Okay, let's change to that." "Why do you want to downgrade?" "It's $15 less for ethe smae plan, plus 10 Gb." "Oh. Well... we appreciate your business, can I offer the same plan plus the extra 10Gb... for $40...?"

"..." "Um... you're offering me the $50 plan I just asked for for $10 less?"

"Well, it's a different package but it has everything you have now, with 20Gb instead of 10."

"Um...okay. Done."

I still don't understand the conversation, lol. :-)

@Livingmarble I just paid off my 2 year contract for a new phone with Freedom. To get the deal on the phone I had to up my service plan to 10Gb, etc, etc, for $65. So, now that the phone is paid, I called them to go back to something around $50. They had 10Gb and everything I have for $55... and 20Gb and everything I have for... $50. So I asked if there was a difference. "with the $50 you get 10 more GB."
@redfrog Why not? If Twitter tanks it's a $44 billion capital loss that he can use for the next several years to write down the capital gains he'll *have* to take soon, from his Tesla stock options. In other words - when he *has* to move on options and incurs taxable capital gains, he can write that down against the capital losses from Twitter.

@starcatbooks @[email protected] @ajroach42 Boy, do I hear that. :-)
@[email protected] @ajroach42 I’m 62 as of this October & feel at home on Mastodon. It’s like Usenet, ARPANET, & early BBSes had a baby. The territory is different, the spiderweb it creates is refreshingly familiar & new at the same time. I was present at the beginnings of what is now called social media when I was working for Excite Corp when it was a contender on the field against Altavista & Yahoo (yes, I’m old) β€” Mastodon is what we were shooting for but didn’t realize it.

"It's bigger on the inside."

59 years ago today, children in Britain, and shortly afterwards the entire world, learned something ordinary just might be not so ordinary.

They heard music unlike anything they'd ever heard before.

And they remembered it the rest of their days.
