Anyways being unemployed for this long is really taking a toll on my brain.

Fuck this entire discussion of why one social media platform succeeds over the other. Here it is in a nutshell:

Mastodon has no good memes on it. Everyone here is a joyless “thinker”. This place is stuffier than an Ivy League alumnus gathering in a smoking room filled with mothballs. There is nothing to laugh about on Mastodon.

@[email protected] failwhale was a classic part of Twitter’s origin story. Maybe Blsky launched public, crashes every day, a failed clone will try and migrate users, Blsky will move to an experimental yet-unproven JVM language…what fun

Do you hand-make things that you sell? Do you wish Etsy would *disintegrate* for jacking up fees 30% after a record sales year?

Artisans Coop is on its way to becoming a very real Etsy alternative, a place for handmade goods that is owned by its members, that can put all that "record sales" into the pockets of sellers, not white collar thugs. And i do mean artisans, not assholes who steal designs and get them printed at a sweatshop.

How is that possible? Check it out: https://artisans.coop/blog/join-an-authentic-handmade-marketplace-now-enrolling-members/

Mastodon: Stay away from mainstream social media sites and migrate to federated tech.

Also Mastodon: Get the fuck off our website if you’re a journalist, working artist, non-technical user, average normie, car owner, meme poster, law student, line cook…

weird they made these servers that look like The Cheat
They should invent an Etsy that doesn’t suck

Reddit has now sufficiently broken their own site that moderators of the blind community's subreddit who are themselves blind can no longer access the moderator tools.

This statement by the mod team is worth a read to understand the full extent of the failure.

Edit: it's also worth noting that this community now has a dedicated Lemmy instance. https://RBlind.com

Edit 2: Here are archived copies of the mod team's post for those who don't want to click a Reddit link.

They finally did it: Reddit made it impossible for blind Redditors to moderate their own sub

The way in which so-called OSS/FOSS developers prattle on like they’re the fucking John Galts of technology never seems to penetrate their ego shields, and it is this behavior that leaves me choosing the moronic billionaires’ sites more often. At least they act like clowns instead of dressing like them while giving TED talks about global poverty.
The highfalutin way in which Fedi simps pretend like Mastodon has solved the most crucial problems of social media whenever some billionaire clown makes a dumb business decision is maybe the only thing that keeps me from endorsing the Fediverse.
