@maru i read the knitters almanach and knitting without tears. Both had some chapters about sweaters and I remember them beeing pretty similar content wise. I think in the almanach she wrote once or twice that she learned/ improoved on xxx since writing knitting without tears, so I would go for the most recent one you can find :D
On the other hand knitting without tears is more stripped down to the esentials and less full of (entertaining) anekdotes

@maru I really liked Elizabeth Zimmermanns explanations on how to construct sweaters based on gauge and your measurements and then just add whatever pattern you want. I found her books very helpful for understanding when to start decreasing etc. If you have access to them (eg from a library) I recommend you check them out
