COO @ Miren. Probably thinking about food.

Whew, took me a little while to get back to y’all, but I’m so excited to announce my next chapter: taming software deployment through my new company, Miren! It’s gonna be a big project, so I’m thrilled to start with support from BlueYard Capital and Union Square Ventures, enabling us to bring human-centric workflows to a complex domain.

The Start of Something Special

<taps mic> Hey everyone, I’ve got some exciting news to share! After years of dealing with janky dev setups, broken tests, and brittle deployment platforms, I’ve decided to do something about it. We’re calling it Miren, and the vision is to rethink how software is developed, deployed, and managed.</taps>

Something new we're trying this year is one-night-only, intimate events in 3 cities (Berlin, Dublin, & San Francisco). Each one is a multi-course dinner in a hand-picked venue, threaded throughout with storytelling and the This Next Thing spirit.

I sadly won't be at the first two (but if you go, say hi to @eamonleonard & @paulca for me!), but both @evanphx and I will be at the SF dinner on March 27. If you can come join us... we'd love to catch up!

Introducing our satellite dinners

Hello! Somehow it's March already -- time to start thinking about exciting summer plans! In our little This Next Thing planning clubhouse, we've been quietly refining details for TNT 2024, and it's finally time to share it with the world.

I'll be updating a lot this month -- apologies in advance, but it's because I'm so proud to tell you about the incredible stuff we've got going on, and maybe even convince you to join in on the fun!

First: our new site is liiiiiive: https://2024.thisnextthing.com

June 16–19, 2024. Tickets on sale now.

Catching up late on the Devternity debacle, and it's leaving me with a genuine question:

What is it about tech conferences* in particular that seem to attract so much ridiculous drama?

* I don't mean any that I am or have been involved in; this is very much not a passive-aggressive dig, but a true query!

Not only was this week one where we had to recover from Halloween over three workdays, but it was also the accursed one week when Europe has moved to Standard Time but America is still on Daylight Time. I had to check three different sites to try to figure out when my meetings are, and I still screwed it up. 😵‍💫🥴

I’ve aged into getting super excited for the time change this weekend because of that extra hour of sleep. 😴😊

Also, that we’re entering into the hallowed few months of the year when I don’t get irked at everyone writing PST! 🎉

Achieved this for the first time in a LONG time! So excited to tell my 8yo, who always pushes me to keep going when I manage to get to Genius, “but Mommy… don’t you want to be Queen Bee????” 🥹😇 #SpellingBee

😱😍 It's all over for me: Catbird is opening in my neighborhood next year!

I'm going to have to put a specific line item in my 2024 budget for this...

We did something with This Next Thing that I've never done before: incorporated as a non-profit, with @aphoenix as executive director.

You can read more about this on the website https://thisnextthing.com/2024/

(and if you're the trusting type, Early Access tickets are available until the end of the month)

Creative minds. Meaningful relationships. Magical experiences.

I’m also so excited to announce that we will be coming back in 2024!

While we’re retaining many of the magical elements of this past year — gathering creative minds in the Swiss Alps in June — we’re also already cooking up several enhancements and surprises too.

You can read much more about the event here (https://thisnextthing.com/2024). If this sounds like it could be your type of thing, we’ve just opened up Early Access tickets. If you have any questions about it, don’t hesitate to reach out!
