I never thought, when I trained or worked as a GP, that Diphtheria and Polio or, to a large extent, measles, would again be things that I might have to recognise. Nor would I have believed that malnutrition on a scale currently seen would be tolerated by society. I was wrong - how quickly are the hard-fought gains lost.
The reality of Brexit is biting hard. Poor people are suffering most – and now everyone can see it

We are paying £6bn more just to eat. After years of abstract debate, the human consequences of our exit become clearer by the day, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

@tofugolem It upsets me that you are putting ideology above humanity. There is a huge amount wrong with the US but at least they rolled out the vaccines FoC to as many who didn’t listen to the far right nonsense of using it to implant microchips or enslave us all. Here in the UK there was a great deal of greed and graft and disappearing £billions but at least they claimed to follow the science
@tofugolem How long can the keep their population from contact with Covid? As I have said before it is now endemic in the rest of the world and is constantly evolving new strains. Potentially more powerful, more contagious - we, the whole world, need to be vigilant to changes, China cannot continue to ignore it and hope it goes away
@tofugolem What is needed is an effective and wholesale vaccination programme, preferably with the more effective vaccines developed in Europe and the US. They have effectively wasted 3 years with their policy of attempting to hold back the tide. Yes there will be deaths, as there were in the rest of the world, but it is simply unsustainable to lockdown a country the size of China indefinitely
@tofugolem Are you utterly and completely mad? I am not anti science, far from it, I volunteered for clinical trials during the development of Covid vaccines. Nor did I ever assert that more people died from lockdown than from Covid. You are totally inventing responses to imaginary conversations.
@tofugolem The truth is China has refused to acknowledge the failings of its Sinovac vaccine, which has an efficacy rate of 65.9% against Covid-19, according to the New England Journal of Medicine. Covid is now endemic in world populations. The Chinese lack of building immunity through exposure in healthy populations make it more, not less vulnerable
