Mastodon has adopted a lot of features designed for accessibility and/or mental health prevention, please make use of them.

That includes using the "Content Warning" field a lot for anything that could be sensitive, spoiler-y, or just to give a "topic" to your message.

Please write picture descriptions! They're used by screen readers but also in case the image fail to load for any reason.

Tuesday update on the #mastodon growth. 135k (!!) users join yesterday. Also, I'm zooming out the plot to see the evolution in the number of new users through the last year. I'm going to need a logarithm scale pretty soon 😎

It’s interesting that the biggest communication challenge facing Mastodon communities is explaining that it’s basically a protocol and a network of independent, interconnected servers, which is what the Web, e-mail, even DNS and most of the fundamental services we use on the internet are, and always were.
It just illustrates just how much ‘Big Tech’ proprietary social media platforms swallowed up and walled off, if it’s now difficult to explain what the internet actually is!

@nevali I am a former SWer and I run an instance (silverheart.social) where I don't tolerate SWERFs. My instance is very small but I would welcome sex workers and wouldn't bother them if they want to advertise or work!

An zwei Stellen ist dieses Jahr Geld in die Comicszene geflossen, die Projekte sonst meist unabhängig und unterbezahlt realisiert. Mit diesen neuen Ressourcen haben der Berliner Verlag Colorama und die neu gegründete Comicgewerkschaft viel in Bewegung gesetzt.

@jessmahler I wonder if it's not the act of cw'ing itself but the act of someone who isn't marginalized "helpfully" asking someone who is marginalized to cw something they don't actually have the lived experience to judge whether or not it merits one, effectively policing their behavior to a non-marginalized lens

So my personal solution has been to cw all posts about elections and governments, and to cw -isms and shitty stuff that happens to other marginalized folks.

ie, I am white and live in the US, I do not experience racism, so I cw racism.

I am trans and Jewish, I experience transphobia and antisemitism. I do not always cw these things, because sometimes I'm just talking about my life. But I do sometimes if I think it's important to CW that specific thing

warum mich die derzeitigen Diskussionen um CW so kriegen

für mich sind durchgängige CWs Barrierefreiheit,

ich hab alles aufgeklappt damit ich nichts aufklappen muss (auch Barrierefreiheit dass das ne Option ist) und es ist so viel besser zu wissen worums geht bei ALLEN Themen

genial wenn noch der Ton bzw die Stimmung markiert ist

abschätzige Hottakes gegen CWs fühlen sich ableistisch, consentfeindlich und spammig an
