Professionally, I do work in disability advocacy with a primary focus on intellectual and developmental disabilities.

I like to spend my time creating, finding ways to make the world a better place, and appreciating the beauty that can be found in what is all around us.

SCREAMING #trans #healthcare is being stolen. Does anyone hear this? Does anyone care?
I often feel like I’m talking to myself in here, but I’m so incredibly frustrated right now and feel like I have few places to scream how angry I am. One of the main places to receive trans healthcare in Austin, TX, fired the doctors today. Trans healthcare for all ages is being quietly chipped away. Fascists can f**k right off.

Right now Graduate Workers at the University of Michigan are on strike trying to get a living wage for the work that they do. This time trans healthcare is also under debate as many grad workers can not access the care that they need.

When asked to improve access to trans healthcare, the University of Michigan said they are "not interested in doing that". After being told how desperately their students need this care, and how they are suffering, they responded with indifference and sighed with relief when the next topic was introduced.

Please boost this, the University is trying to hide behind a progressive facade while rejecting a living wage and trans care.

Edit: Please also consider donating to their strike fund. The University has stopped paying graduate workers, including some that were not on strike https://givebutter.com/GEOStrikeFund

The #Texas legislature was poised today to move a bill close to becoming law that would have banned healthcare for #trans youth. Hearing from friends at the capitol and watching videos, it seems that several trans folx peacefully protesting were assaulted by counter-protesters and DPS officers alike. 1 activist was banned from the capitol for 1 year for dropping a banner over a railing. I’ve participated in many protests at that capitol and have never seen anything like this.

The thing about being a trans woman is that growing up, all the boys around me knew I wasn't one of them.

Nobody ever called me a man until they realized they could hurt a woman by doing so.

When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young. - Maya Angelou

I know I am boosting a lot of begposts right now. If you're cis, please donate to one or more. If you're trans and economically privileged, please give or boost as you can. If you are trans and trying to get out of a hostile state, please reach out and I'll boost your GFM or whatever and I'll give you whatever help I can.

You know that wee ‘We’re in the library! The library is nice!’ nod and a smile that strangers exchange when they wander past each other in the library? That’s the atmosphere I feel every time I wander into Mastodon. Here’s a bouquet of flowers to say tak and thank you for making this space this nice.

Posting this amazing art ("pink in the night") by Eunnie, who has seemingly not yet joined the fediverse, so that you're not missing out

I have added full alt text, which was sadly missing from the posts elsewhere.
