We’re also looking ahead to what comes next. In another blog post published today, we introduced Mastodon’s new leadership team. Our Executive Director is @mellifluousbox (formerly, CFO of Mastodon gGmbH), who has already represented Mastodon on international stages.

We also shared an organisational update, and a fundraising update, in that blog post.

The World Bank’s latest data shows a quiet global triumph: 93% of people aged 15 to 24 can now read and write, up from 87% in 2000. In many regions, including East Asia, Latin America, and Central Europe, youth literacy has reached or neared universal levels, marking one of the most successful, least reported stories in development. https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SE.ADT.1524.LT.ZS?end=2024&start=2000&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

👋 I’m on the look out for my next project, I’m an experienced Elixir dev (> 8 years, and > 10 years of Ruby before that + I'm still the maintainer of RSpec), very familiar with Phoenix and LiveView, and have enough CSS / JS knowledge to approach projects from a full stack angle.

I’ve worked with all sorts of companies from large e-commerce companies, media orgs to founders building MVPs to prove out concepts, however I have a strict no crypto/gambling policy.

I am informed that the rubygems leaders who were ousted in the coup have regrouped at https://gem.coop/ with a new gems server.
gem.coop

We’re excited to introduce gem.coop – a new server for gems in the Ruby ecosystem. We aim for fast, simple hosting, that is compatible with Bundler but optimized for the next generation. It’s built for the community by the former maintainers and operators of RubyGems.org.
