#DidYouKnow: An estimated 5.4 million people worldwide are bitten by #Snakes each year with 1.8 to 2.7 million cases of envenomings.

Most deaths and serious consequences of snake bites are entirely preventable by making safe and effective #Antivenoms more widely available and accessible.

Snakebite envenoming

WHO fact sheet on snake antivenoms with key facts and providing information on global situation, challenges producing antivenoms, weak health systems and lack of data and WHO action.

Let me make sure I follow the narrative.

1. Musk has personally overseen the creation of a system that allows a single person's (his, for now) Tweets to be amplified over everyone else's across the platform.

2. Musk has allowed banned right-wing accounts back on, espoused support for the Republican party, and was palling with Rupert Murdoch.

3. Twitter desperately needs money fast, and has no ethical qualms with paying for amplification (Blue)

This leads exactly one place.

Employers are finding people are more likely to take PTO and not work on weekends. They are labeling this behavior less ambitious. This is quiet quitting redux.

COVID taught us there’s more to life than working hard for companies that don’t care about us.

Your Coworkers Are Less Ambitious; Bosses Adjust to the New Order

For a growing number of professionals, the days of unpaid overtime and working through weekends are in the past. Firms add people to finish projects, close for holidays and take other steps.

Glad to see @Gargron turning down VC funding for Mastodon. The #1 thing VCs like to see is rapid growth and that’s the one thing that would kill Mastodon.

I have a better set of interactions here with 5,000 followers than on Twitter with over 100K followers. But I also realize that’s partially due to the niche nature of the service.

The service is also currently not designed for policing that scale of usage.

Public Service Warning

Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.

It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.

We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

Pink Floyd Plays in Venice on a Massive Floating Stage in 1989; Forces the Mayor & City Council to Resign

When Roger Waters left Pink Floyd after 1983’s The Final Cut, the remaining members had good reason to assume the band was truly, as Waters’ proclaimed, “a spent force.” After releasing solo projects in the next few years, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright soon discovered they would never achieve as individuals what they did as a band, both musically and commercially.
