Just me in yet another virtual session where someone refers to the present as "post-Covid", screaming internally and losing respect for the person speaking.

#CovidIsNotOver #ifWishesWereHorses #cmonSon

Today I'm starting a new series on data collection & visualization. In this entry we look at job hunting data.

I've been anticipating this for a long time. Over the course of this series we're going to examine everything from job applications, to litterboxes, to mental health & biometrics. This has been a wild ride, and I'm glad to bring y'all along for it.

As with all my posts, public timeline replies to this will appear as comments on the site.

Lessons in Grafana - Part One: A Vision

How it started / How it's going

@finn a Matrix spokesperson when asked for comment on the Discord situation had this to say:

Unable to Decrypt Message

Him: well what's your big brain idea to eliminate food assistance fraud?

Me: universal food assistance

Him:

Me: because there wouldn't be a system to cheat, everyone would just get a check

Him: and who does that benefit?

Me: family farmers and human beings who rely on food for nutrition

Him: what about rich people?

Me: what about them?

Him: you would give them food assistance too?

Me: that's what universal means

Him: you can't do that

Me: yesterday you said I couldn't tax them and now you won't let me feed them either?

Him: they can afford food

Me: then it should be fine to tax them

Him: but if you tax them they won't have as much money

Me: I'm willing to offer universal food assistance

I am downloading the OpenAlex bibliometric dataset with the intention to shove it into PostgreSQL and run queries. Is this what my bibliometrics professor has in mind? No. Is it easier than picking a different research problem? Also no. But will going the extra mile to manipulate the data at this low and thorough level be reflected in the marks I receive on the assignment? No. Will I use this opportunity to critique the lack of expressiveness in bibliographic database query tools? Maybe, it does have another 20 hours of downloading, I could probably squeeze in a rant.

So I just read something and that makes me wonder...

Do people with aphantasia (like myself) more often have an inner dialogue that is "speech-like", you know actually speaking words in a language

Or (like me), more often just "vibes" and their inner thoughts only becomes language once these need to be expressed

(I also added the options for people who have no aphantasia [have phantasia I guess] so we can compare results 😄)

Boosting is appreciated ❤ī¸

@admin no, we just picked a time, drew flyers the day before, and got coffee and donuts set up on a little table with a sign. It was lovely and I highly recommend it. I felt a little anxious/awkward before it started but it was beyond worth it and super easy once it got going. Who knows how people will respond but I think people want to connect
omg I'm reading this dumb twitter article but can't continue because I'm laughing too hard at this diagram. Like, using this as a definition of an intelligent system then crashing into the fucking rocks because you don't know wtf a lighthouse is.
