This is a canal in the back yard of my parents. This was my grandparents’ house and there used to be some big tree trunks in their yard that would obscure this exact angle. I was lamenting the loss of all the trees in the backyard on this recent visit but before then you had to walk all the way to the bulkhead to get a photo like this of the canal. I have taken many versions of that photo with all my cameras over the years. But this angle is actually a bit nicer because you can see all the way down. This is a branch of the Elizabeth River in Virginia Beach, Va.
I got this Pilot Kaküno fountain pen for Christmas. I had heard it was a great pen for fountain pen newbies and I think that is probably true. I can’t wait to use it some more.

Taking my 14yo on his second practice run on public transit. He will be taking the train and a bus to get to high school starting in a couple weeks.
I really gotta revoke this guy‘s pool membership. He just drinks all day and then causes problems.

It is hard to judge the scale from this photo, but this is a floor-to-ceiling mural on a wall in a Mexican food chain in Florida. They commonly use bright colors in their restaurants, including some hand-painted ceiling tiles. I thought this stylized rendering of Poseidon was pretty cool so I took this photo in 2018.

Recently, this location closest to us closed down and another taco chain has moved in. In the process, they redecorated according to their Dia De Los Muertos theme. They painted all the walls black, and the ceiling tiles. To the spot where the mural was they added their vaguely La Catrina style skull logo. That could have been equally cool to the mural but the current version just is weak by comparison. This bums me out a bit.

Last week we took a family vacation to New York City for my kid’s spring break. It was nice to see the lady one more time before Trump covers her up with a sheet.

This thread originated at Woolworth, a U.S. department store chain that closed in 1997. It was given to me around 1994 by my grandmother, culled from her larger stock of sewing supplies, as part of a DIY sewing kit she put together for me to take to college. Who knows how long it had been since she purchased it, but I have only ever needed to sew something once every year or two. A button here, a split seam there. My grandmother passed in 2007 and I am almost 50, but the thread and needles she gave me then, as a brand new adult, still come in handy.
